There are lots of gold mining opportunities in Washington state. Fine placer gold can be found in the Columbia River and its tributaries, as well as numerous creeks and rivers west of the Cascades. Crown Resources Corporation initially applied for a licence to build an open-pit mine at the top of the 5,600 mountain near the Canadian border.
